My New Friends
These are my new friends (and my sweet daughter). These ladies have spent the summer with me at NeighborLink as interns. Really, they were way more than that. I new heading into 2013 I was going to need a boost of energy, enthusiasm, and capacity if I was going to make it through this year.
When I approached my board of directors with the idea of bringing on interns this summer, I came with a plan that allowed me to bring on three full-time and one part-time person to see what it would be like if were were running at full capacity.
I put a lot of thought, planning, and pressure on myself to make this summer work and get the most out of it I could. Little did these ladies know that this was going to be more than an internship for them, but an environment where they could explore their current skills and their dreams of future vocations. I put a lot of responsibility and was as transparent about all the great things, opportunities, and the struggles of running a grassroots organization.
They did everything I asked and more with great attitudes and servant hearts. God orchestrated this team this summer and if I could guarantee this type of summer every summer with interns, I'd do it every year without hesitation.
The biggest thing I needed to take away from this summer was a better understanding of what our organization needs when it comes to future staffing. We have the funds to hire some help at the first of 2014 and I'm now pretty confident that I know what types of help we're looking for. Keeping the details of that move to myself for now, but its a good plan thanks to the work of these ladies.
Thanks again for your hard work Beth, Bethany, Holly, and Amanda. We're praying for your success and for the visions of your heart for the Kingdom.
