A New Day at NeighborLink - Our First Office
I recently moved NeighborLink Fort Wayne into it’s first office space as an organization after almost two years of exploring the idea of a co-working space. Part of what has made NeighborLink as great it is, is its commitment to being as grassroots as possible. We’ve made do for almost 10 years working out of our homes, coffee shops, and the conference tables of our partner organizations.
The reality is that we don’t need an office for who we are as an organization today. However, if we believe in who NeighborLink is becoming, it’s time to step out in faith and prepare for the future. So, that’s what we’re doing.
We recently took office space in the building recently purchased by Blue Jacket, Inc. that was built by Anthony Wayne Services and was most recently occupied by the Catherine Kasper Place. Not only are we simply taking up office space here, we are working with Blue Jacket to redevelop the old waiting room area into a co-working/collaborative space in order to attract other nonprofits or social enterprises that need office space and desire to work in a spirited environment.
Here are before and after pictures of the space we have as well as the waiting room space that is about to get redone towards the end of the month.
To some, this is just another small nonprofit getting a new office in an ordinary building. To us, this is the beginning of a new chapter of the growth of NeighborLink and the NeighborLink Network. This space gives us room to have interns and volunteers working in the office on a regular basis as well as space to have board and advisory group meetings.
We’re excited to work with such a great organization in Blue Jacket to develop this space into a neighborhood assest and create innovative social enterprises that employ hard to employ people. I look forward to sharing more about this space as it develops.
Ps… On Saturday, June 30th from 8:30am - 1pm, we are having a work day at the office. NeighborLink needs to build two desks for our office and we need carpenters, painters, and anyone that wants to create a great work space to join us.
If you’d like to join us, we’ll be building desks, a bar height counter top, painting ceiling tiles and walls, building a pallet wall, and whatever else we can get done that morning.
Signup for the project on our website here. or Email me at Andrew @ NLFW.org to join us that day!
