It's Time to Roof
We had over 60 roof repair/replacement requests in 2010 and were only able to do 1 complete replacement and a handful of repairs. Roof problems are on a borderline epidemic level for our community’s elderly, disabled, low income, and fixed income families.
With roof replacement cost beginning at close to $4,000 and going well above $10,000 for complete replacements done by professional companies, you can see the impossible feat it is for those without the resources. For many, a roof that needs repaired could mean that they will live in sub-par housing and even lose their home because of it.
Roofing projects are by far the hardest projects we encounter at NeighborLink. They aren’t always the most technically challenging project we take on, but they require a lot of time, resources, and the right set of leadership skills to get one done.
Our two biggest challenges:
- Finding a skilled contractor that’s willing to oversee the work and work with volunteers.
- Finding material and/or financial resources to cover the cost of materials. Typical cost is between $1700 - $2200
I’m happy to announce that after an entire year, a NeighborLink Coach working with one of our recipient has been able to secure the skilled labor for the project as well as the volunteers to help out. This Coach and volunteers have helped paint this house, done several minor repairs, and some gutter repairs in the past while they’ve waited patiently for the right set of volunteers to step up. God is faithful to provide.
We’re also excited to announce our first collaborative effort with CANI, who has committed to helping this woman get a new furnace and insulation once this roof is repaired as part of their Weatherization Program.
We could really use some donations to come in on this project. This project is going to cost $2,100 in material resources. Money we’re glad to spend, but we could use some of your help in order to make sure we can continue supporting our volunteers on these projects and meet the needs of our recipients.
If you would consider donating to this project, know that 100% of your donation will go to purchasing resources for this project. If you give $20, $20 goes to buying shingles.
