Needed Inspiration
The last couple of weeks have been quite overwhelming at NeighborLink. The phone has been ringing off the hooks with stories of needs that would make anyone depressed. People that are living in poverty, are disabled, are elderly, you name it, they’ve called. All of them have really difficult stories and sure, some of them are responding the perceived handout the City was offering when they opened up their HANDS program.
So, in the past two weeks I’ve added 76 projects in the last two weeks and still have handful of voicemails to return that will result in even more project.
There are also really great things going on within the NeighborLink community of volunteers. We’re ahead of last year’s numbers of projects completed at 57 with another 30 in the planning/scheduled phase. That’s pretty amazing considering we did 260 total projects last year.
My inspiration today came from having breakfast with one of the two groups of retired guys that are 3 or 4 weeks into their time meeting. They are plugging away and having a blast.
It’s humbling and encouraging to know that there are these pods of people connecting relationally and empowering each other to be the change they want to see in our community through serving those less fortunate than them. It feels like I have 8 other co-workers going out on mission today.
It’s excited when bursts of inspiration come from folks that are living inspiring lives.
In what ways have you been inspired lately?
